It’s Christmas time, and our minds are directed anew to the biblical account of the first Christmas. We see the clear hand of God fulfilling every prophecy regarding the birth of His Son, even using Caesar Augustus to demand taxes. Sound familiar? I’m sure Caesar had no idea that God was using him. Yet, God did, and He still uses rulers today! “In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that He channels toward all who please Him” (Proverbs 21:1). A few years ago, we never would have imagined having a ministry to the “rulers” of Nebraska. God, however, had that in His master plan, and it has been an honor and privilege to minister to the Capitol community. We have so much in 2023 for which we praise the Lord.
Bible Studies
Our Bible study attendance has grown significantly over the past 3 years. When we began with Capitol Studies, we had about 10 attendees at the senators’ breakfast study and about the same number for the staff lunch study. During this past legislative session, we rarely had less than a dozen senators and sometimes more. For the staff lunches, we had between 30 and 35 in attendance. We continue the staff studies even in the off session. The attendance is not as high during that time because staff are allowed greater flexibility in their work schedules, but we still have around 20 at the weekly Bible study.
Encouragement
Thank you so much for your prayer and financial support. Our hearts are often touched by gifts that are truly sacrificial. We are glad that God keeps record. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to do networking, word processing, accounting, meal provision, office work, and much more to keep us and the ministry going. Our prayer for all of you in our support team is that God will do as He has promised in Luke 6:38, “pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over.”
Support
We would appreciate the opportunity to share the ministry of Capitol Studies to churches, small groups, or one on one. With the blessing of greater attendance has also come the need for more resources to provide the printed studies and meals. As everything has gotten more expensive across the economy, so also the expenses that this ministry faces have increased. Would you pray that God would burden others to support this ministry? Would you consider making a year-end contribution?
How amazing that from the beginning of time, God had a plan for you and me to be rescued from our sin and live forever with Him in heaven! “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). That’s the good news that we seek to share. That’s reason to rejoice!
I shall speak Thy testimonies before kings, and shall not be ashamed!
Psalm 119:46
