Dear <<First Name>>,

Capitol Studies is committed to its mission to “Serve Civil Servants with Scripture” in the State of Nebraska. We would argue that the most important word in that mission statement is Scripture. Everything we do centers around being faithful to what God has spoken to us in His Word, and if we were to lose that, our mission would be void.

However, God’s Word will not return unto Him void (Isaiah 55:11). In recent years, cultural pressure to waver in regard to Biblical Truth has gotten stronger, and some institutions have caved under that pressure. Because we trust in the promises of God contained in His Word, we must stand for His truth, regardless of the outcome.

Many of you are probably aware that during the month of May each year, the Lincoln Community Foundation hosts an event called “Give to Lincoln Day.” This event is organized to support local nonprofit organizations in the City of Lincoln with a large fundraising drive and matching grant. Capitol Studies has participated in this event in years past and has benefitted significantly from it.

However, due to a new “non-discrimination affirmation” statement on gender and sexual orientation that all nonprofit organizations are required to sign to participate, Capitol Studies cannot participate in “Give to Lincoln Day” this year. This is an example of the increasing cultural pressure faced by Christian ministries who refuse to agree to unbiblical ideas being promoted in our culture today. We firmly believe that signing such a statement would undermine our commitment to Scritpure, and thus we will not – we cannot – cave to this pressure.

These new requirements impose a social and political agenda on all nonprofits and go far beyond any non-discrimination requirements under Nebraska Law. In response, Capitol Studies has joined with over 35 other Christian ministries in the City of Lincoln who are not participating this year. We are disappointed that it came to this, but we must remain true to our mission by “obeying God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).

While you cannot support Capitol Studies through “Give to Lincoln Day” this year, we are instead inviting you to give directly during the month of May. As we near the end of a contentious legislative session, we see the need for the Word of God in the halls of our state government ever more clearly. We appreciate your faithful support of our mission to “Serve Civil Servants with Scripture,” and we look to God to graciously equip and provide for us as we carry out that mission.

If you would consider helping us continue to serve Senators and their staff members, we would be very thankful!
